Four pilots find cast members

In the latest round of pilot castings, Erika Christensen is the first cast in NBC’s “Parenthood,” Madchen Amick and Ryan Devlin are set as leads in ABC’s comedy “The Law,” and Stuart Townsend will co-star on Fox’s “Maggie Hill.”
Meanwhile, Josh Hopkins and Ian Gomez have entered ABC’s “Cougar Town.”
Based on the 1990s movie, UMS’ “Parenthood” centers on the Braverman clan.
Christensen, repped by UTA and Brillstein, will play Julia Braverman, a go-getting corporate attorney having trouble jumping off the fast track and becoming more involved with her family.
On 20th TV’s “Hill,” about a brilliant surgeon with schizophrenia (Christina Cole), Townsend will play her imaginary boyfriend.
ABC Studios/DreamWorks’ “Law,” starring Cedric the Entertainer, revolves around reserve police officers. Amick, repped by Gersh and Affirmative, will play a soccer mom-turned-reservist. Devlin, with Gersh and Grant Management, will play a rookie reservist.
ABC Studios’ comedy “Cougar Town” is about a 40-year-old newly single mom (Courteney Cox) with a teen son. “Swingtown” alum Hopkins, repped by Gersh and Brillstein, plays her neighbor. Gomez will play another neighbor.

32nd Cairo International Film Festival kicks off

On steady, bouncing Spanish flamenco beats, the 32nd Cairo International Film Festival kicked off Tuesday at the Cairo Opera House with a spirited star-studded opening ceremony abundant with glitches and suffering from disorganization that, nevertheless, managed to emerge as the most entertaining and most significant opening ceremony in years.

Irish actor/director Stuart Townsend presented actress Samira Ahmed with the final award of the evening, who took such opportunity to endorse Hosny’s bid for UNESCO’s top post.

Based on true events, the film, Battle In Seattle dramatizes five days in 1999 that changed the course of history when over 50,000 marchers and activists came together in the streets of Seattle Washington to defeat the World Trade Organization talks. Stars: Andre Benjamin (Outkast), Woody Harrelson, Channing Tatum, Michelle Rodriguez, Joshua Jackson, Charlize Theron, Ray Liotta, Connie Nielsen, Jennifer Carpenter.
CHAOS THEORY SOUNDTRACK
Lakeshore Records will release the original soundtrack for CHAOS THEORY via iTunes on July 15. CHAOS THEORY was released in theaters in March and on DVD June 17. The soundtrack contains music composed by Gilad Benamram (Pretty Persuasion), four songs by The Damnwells, with additional songs by The Boy Least Likely To, Walking Concert, and Gingersol.
Frank Allen (Ryan Reynolds), celebrated author of the bestseller The Five Minute Efficiency Trainer, has perfected the art of living via a foolproof system of timetables and index cards. But life, as he soon learns, never adheres to a strict schedule. Frank’s wife, Susan (Emily Mortimer), and seven-year-old daughter, Jesse (Matreya Fedor), find his obsession charming in small doses, but as a steady diet it can be very frustrating. One morning, Susan attempts to loosen her husband’s scheduling stranglehold by adding ten minutes to his day. But, by setting the clock backward instead of forward, she inadvertently unleashes a series of mishaps that turn his meticulously ordered life upside down.
The film’s director, Marcos Siega, began his career directing music videos before branching out into directing films like Underclassman and Pretty Persuasion. Music plays an integral part in his films. Siega turned to Israeli composer Gilad Benamram, with whom he worked on Pretty Persuasion for CHAOS THEORY. Benamran’s credits include two films with director Airel Vromen (Simple Lies and Danika), the 2007 Japanese feature Ichijiku no kao (Faces of a Fig Tree) and the 2008 documentary Victory Over Darkness)
In addition to the music composed by Benamram, the songs chosen for the film reflect the setting, as the film takes place in three different times frames – when Frank, Susan and Buddy are in their early 20s in the early 80s, a few years later when Frank and Susan are married with a seven-year-old daughter, and in present day when the now-adult Jesse is getting married. Four songs featured in the film are from the indie rock band The Damnwells, who contribute two previously unreleased cuts “Say” and “Tonight & Forever”.
Castle Rock Entertainment and Lone Star Film Group present CHAOS THEORY now available on DVD. CHAOS THEORY original soundtrack on Lakeshore Records will be available via iTunes on July 15, 2008.

Seattle International Film Festival
The 34th annual Seattle International Film Festival will run May 22 through June 15 at a number of venues around town. Opening night, at McCaw Hall, will feature Stuart Townsend’s “Battle In Seattle,” a drama about the 1999 WTO protests partly filmed in Seattle. Writer/director Townsend and stars Charlize Theron and Martin Henderson are scheduled to attend.

Stuart & Charlize will be attending the 10th Sarasota Film Festival, held April 3-14th, 2008.
Battle of Seattle has been chosen as the festival’s closing film.
